SJC Women’s League brings fashion to the county
The San Jacinto County Women’s League showed off Fashion Through the Ages during the organization’s monthly luncheon at Jones Auditorium on March 8.
The fashion show has members of the Women’s League showing off outfits for the luncheon guests, which are available to purchase at Dress Barn in Conroe, Texas. Members of the San Jacinto County Women’s League were given the opportunity to purchase any outfit they liked for 30 percent off on the same weekend as the show.
Guests also enjoyed a meal provided by the Church Ladies, a local catering business. An estimate of 120 guests were in attendance to the luncheon.
While the show is entertaining for the guests, Women’s League member Sheena Bass says it serves another purpose.
“It goes to scholarships for seniors,” she said. “The kids have the opportunity of applying and their application is judged.”
Senior students of both Shepherd ISD and Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD are able to apply for scholarships through the Women’s League. The amount of money given to scholarships varies from year to year.
“I believe it’s usually around $1,000,” said Bass. “They also give funding to the library (Coldspring Area Public Library).”
Funds are raised through tickets sold for the luncheon, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.
The Women’s League gives an opportunity for local women in the county to come together and enjoy each other’s company. According to Bass, the Women’s League has existed for more than 20 years in the county and is looking for new members to fill its ranks.
