Shorthanded Lady Buffs fall to Miller

The Stanley County Lady Buffaloes saw their struggles continue on Tuesday night, as they lost 53-12 to the Miller Lady Rustlers in Miller.

The Lady Rustlers outscored the Lady Buffs 15-2 in the first quarter. They kept that momentum up as they they took a 31-6 lead into halftime. The Lady Buffs struggles continued in the second half as they were outscored 14-2 in the third quarter. They were able to lock down the Lady Rustlers a little bit in the fourth quarter, but the game was well in hand at that point as the Lady Rustlers won 53-12.

The Lady Buffs came into Tuesday night down three players. Senior forward Jennifer Sweetman was lost for the basketball season after tearing her ACL in the volleyball season. Lady Buffs coach Adam Dannenbring said that the team added two more injuries last week.


“We had Maria Cota tear her ACL versus Todd County, so she is now out for the season,” Dannenbring said. “Jayda Tibbs sprained her ankle, and was out this game too. Miller is a great team, and they played awesome defense against us.”

The Lady Rustlers shot 35.4 percent from the field, while the Lady Buffs shot 21.1 percent. The Lady Rustlers also shot 63.6 percent from the line, while the Lady Buffs shot 57.1 percent. The Lady Buffs had 31 turnovers in the loss, while the Lady Rustlers had just four turnovers. The Lady Rustlers outrebounded the Lady Buffs 34-17.

The Layd Rustlers were led by Kadye Fernholz, who had a game high 12 points. The Lady Buffs were led by sophomore forward Karley Leafgreen, who had six points. Senior forward TJ Drageset had four points, and eight grade guard Taylee Stroup had two points.

The Lady Rustlers improve to 10-6 with the win, while the Lady Buffs fall to 0-16. The next time the Lady Rustlers see action will be on Thursday at Wessington Springs, and on Saturday at Todd County. The Lady Buffs will next see action on Thursday at White River, and on Saturday versus Wall at home. Thursday’s games are slated to start at 4 pm, while Saturday’s games are slated to start at 2 pm. Saturday’s game versus Wall will be senior night and Hall of Fame night.
