Former employee opens fire in bar, kills one
KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) _ A man returned to a bar that laid him off recently and opened fire early Tuesday, killing a manager and injuring three others, police said.
``He pulled out a 9mm handgun, fired four times, hit four people,″ said police spokeswoman Cynthia Edwards. ``It all happened very quickly.″
There were about 75 people inside the Hideaway bar at the RumRunners complex when the shooting occurred.
Police say Jeffrey Wallace, 36, came to the bar armed with the semi-automatic pistol and dozens of rounds of clip-loaded ammunition stuffed in the front pockets of his pants and a leather pouch attached to his belt.
After the first shot, patrons hit the floor and ran for the exits as bouncers leaped at Wallace, holding him for police.
Wallace, a temporary employee, had been laid off after spring break.
A general manager at the bar, Michael Sumner, 32, was fatally shot. Two other employees and a tourist were wounded.
