Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott sells Chevy dealership

CINCINNATI (AP) _ Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott, accused by General Motors Corp. of faking sales at her Chevrolet-Geo dealership to meet sales quotas, has sold the dealership.

GM completed an agreement Wednesday with Cincinnati car dealer Gregory Joseph to replace Schott’s dealership in suburban Montgomery with a new one, on the same location, called Montgomery Chevrolet. Joseph and partner Karl Stewart are co-presidents of the dealership.

Ronald Joseph Sr., chief executive of the Joseph Auto Group, said Schott will be a consultant for Montgomery Chevrolet but he wouldn’t define her role. She still owns Schott Buick in suburban Norwood.

Joseph declined to reveal the sale price.

Schott’s troubles with major league baseball over the allegations may not be over even with the sale.

National League President Len Coleman has said baseball would investigate GM’s allegations against Schott when she and the automaker resolved their differences.

Baseball wants to probe GM’s complaint that Schott faked 57 car sales in 1995 to meet sales quotas. Of those alleged phony sales, seven were in the names of current Reds employees.

GM’s lawyers said last month that the company’s complaint likely would be dropped if Schott sold the dealership.
