Child Actress And Parents Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A child actress who played a girl slain by her Green Beret father in the fact-based TV movie ″Fatal Vision″ was shot to death with her mother in a murder-suicide by her real-life father, authorities said.
The three bodies were found Wednesday in the fire-damaged home of Jozsef and Maria Barsi, whose only child, Judith, 11, also starred in the movie ″Jaws IV: The Revenge″ as well as numerous TV shows and about 50 commercials.
Coroner’s officials identified the dead man as Jozsef Barsi, 55, but withheld the names of the woman and child pending notification of relatives. However, neighbors said the girl was Judith.
Barsi, 55, apparently shot and killed his 48-year-old wife, Maria, and his daughter, doused the bodies with gasoline and set them on fire before going to the garage and shooting himself in the head with a .32-caliber pistol, investigators said.
Judith Barsi had played a daughter of Jeffrey MacDonald in ″Fatal Vision,″ about the murder of the doctor’s pregnant wife and two daughters at Fort Bragg, N.C., in 1970. The children were stabben and beaten to death.
Next-door neighbor Eunice Daly said she was watering her garden when she heard an explosion and saw smoke rising from the Barsi home Wednesday morning.
″My first thought, as I ran in to call 911, was, ’He’s done it. He’s killed them and set a fire in the house, just like he said he would,‴ she said.
She said Mrs. Barsi told her last week that her husband became abusive and threatening when he drank. She said the woman was considering filing for divorce.
Ms. Daly said she had encouraged Mrs. Barsi several times to move out.
″She said, ’I can’t, because he’ll come after us and kill us, and he’s threatened to burn the house down,‴ Ms. Daly said.
The child’s body was found in her bed and the woman’s in a hallway, police Lt. Warren Knowles said. He said both were shot once in the head.
A former neighbor, Adrienne Conway, described the child as ″adorable ... quite precocious, blonde and blue-eyed.″
Miss Barsi made her film debut in 1987 in ″Jaws IV: The Revenge,″ in which she played the role of Thea.
Her television appearances included roles in ″St. Elsewhere,″ ″Cagney and Lacey″ and ″Growing Pains,″ said Bonnie Gold, a spokeswoman for a Studio City agency that managed her career.
