MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (AP) _ Swedish heavy metal guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen was arrested Tuesday and charged with assaulting the mother of his 19-year-old girlfriend when she tried to take her daughter back to Arizona.

″I have no idea what’s up,″ said a handcuffed Malmsteen, who wore a bathrobe as he was placed into a police car in front of his home in this Miami suburb.

Police were called after Elaine Potter reported that her daughter, Amber Landin, was being held against her will.

″He took out a shotgun and he took out a handgun,″ said Potter, who came from Phoenix. ″He said, ’If you think you are taking her anywhere you are not going to or you are going to find out how this gun works.″

Officers surrounded Malmsteen’s house, and after about an hour they coaxed Landin out and then Malmsteen, said police Lt. Richard Harrison.

Landin told police she wasn’t held against her will or assaulted.

Malmsteen, whose first name is pronounced Ing-Vay, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was jailed on $7,500 bond.

Police Chief Michael Zoovas said Landin met Malmsteen about a year ago when she sought his autograph after a show.

Malmsteen has a large following in Europe. His latest album is titled ″Fire and Ice.″
