New Orleans, Touro partner on health events for women
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans and Touro are teaming up to offer health screenings and other resources to improve maternal health.
In a news release the city described how they will be holding a series of six events starting Saturday at area libraries.
Women who attend will be able to get free blood pressure screenings, consult with a Touro healthcare provider and get information about city programs.
Officials hope the partnership will identify women with hypertension and get them help.
High blood pressure can cause complications during pregnancy such as slow growth of the baby or premature birth.
Health Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno says during the city’s 2019 Community Health Assessment high blood pressure was one of the top five health concerns for residents.
