ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ A man who was hurled through a plate-glass window at a popular bar by Charles Barkley was charged Friday with throwing a glass of ice at a woman who was sitting with the NBA star.
Jorge Lugo, 20, was charged but not arrested for the misdemeanor battery, said Sgt. Bill Mulloy, a spokesman for the Orlando police department.
Barkley told police that he threw the man through the window at Phineas Phoggs bar Oct. 26 after Lugo threw a glass of ice at him and three women who were sitting at his table.
One of the women, Karen Carrington, said she was hit by the glass.
Police said the Houston Rockets star later told the victim as he lay bleeding on the ground: ``You got what you deserve. You don’t respect me. I hope you’re hurt.″
Barkley was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest without violence. He faces a Dec. 2 court appearance.
Lugo’s attorney, Mark NeJame, couldn’t be reached for comment.
The Orlando altercation was the latest in a long history of off-the-court fights for Barkley. The NBA last month told Barkley that he should retire or hire security guards when he goes out in public places.
