A former cheerleader for the Minnesota Vikings has dropped
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ A former cheerleader for the Minnesota Vikings has dropped her sexual harassment lawsuit against quarterback Warren Moon and the team after learning the documents were being published, the Star Tribune reported today.
Moon’s attorneys also had prepared a defamation suit claiming that Michelle Eaves, 24, and another cheerleader conspired to defame his character in an attempt to make money, the newspaper said.
Eaves did not explain why she was dropping the suit and her attorney, Lori Peterson, would not comment further.
Before the suit was withdrawn at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Moon issued a statement denying the allegations made in the Eaves’ suit and in a response by Amy Kellogg to Moon’s planned countersuit.
Kellogg had said she was a witness to the alleged harassment against Eaves, who was seeking damages of more than $50,000.
James Wicka, the attorney representing Kellogg, had described his client as ``simply an independent witness to certain events″ and that ``she has not made a penny against anyone.″
In her complaint, Eaves alleged that Moon, 38, had ``relentlessly pursued″ her and ``called her at her home up to seven times a day.″ On another occasion, she said Moon asked her to have sex with him ``and tried to induce her to accept by offering her an envelope stuffed with cash.″
Moon’s agent, Leigh Steinberg, said from his Los Angeles office that the women’s allegations were ``a concocted fantasy. It is an insult to all of the women who have suffered from the very real problem of sexual abuse in this country.″
Cheerleader Sara Benson had filed an affidavit in support of Moon, saying the allegations were fabricated. Benson said Kellogg told her on May 8 that ``she lied to lawyers for Michelle Eaves because she thought the Minnesota Vikings are a `screwed up’ organization.″
Documents in the suit had been sealed on Friday by Hennepin County District Judge Myron Greenberg, but became available Tuesday when they were attached to Kellogg’s response to Moon’s planned countersuit.
