Mother, Two Children Die in Fire
IPSWICH, Mass. (AP) _ A mother and her two young children _ one an infant dropped from a third-floor window _ died after a fire ripped through their home.
The infant tossed from the building, identified as 5-month-old Carly Collum, died after being flown to New England Medical Center on Tuesday night. The cause of death was not immediately known.
The girl’s mother, Lisa Collum, and Collum’s 4-year-old daughter, Lindsay, had been trapped on the house’s third floor by the flames.
Lisa Collum’s husband reportedly was not at home at the time of the fire.
Several other people in the building, including relatives of the victims, escaped without serious injury.
The fire was spotted at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday by a firefighter who was driving by the house, according to fire officials. It was brought under control at about 9 p.m.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation early Wednesday.
