Celtics Cancel Trade With Raptors

February 11, 2000 GMT

BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Celtics on Friday rescinded the trade that sent Danny Fortson to the Toronto Raptors, saying point guard Alvin Williams failed his physical.

Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said he does not know why Williams failed the physical. Both teams were off this weekend for the All-Star break.

Fortson, who has been stuck behind Antoine Walker in the Celtics’ lineup, was traded to Toronto on Wednesday for Williams and Sean Marks.

Williams was averaging 6.5 points and three assists for the Raptors. Marks has appeared in just five games this season, averaging 1.6 points in 2.4 minutes.

The Celtics first acquired Fortson this summer in a trade with Denver for Ron Mercer. Fortson averaged 11 rebounds per game last season, but he has averaged just 5.9 points and five rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game this year.

He also missed 25 games with a stress fracture in his right foot.
