WASHINGTON (AP) _ Love is in the air at the White House: Presidential spokesman Ari Fleischer is getting married.
Fleischer, 41, became engaged Sunday to Rebecca Davis, 26, an employee of the White House Office of Management and Budget. The two have dated for about a year.
Fleischer confirmed the engagement Tuesday but said no wedding date has been set. He blushed as reporters pelted him with questions _ including whether the entire White House press corps will be invited to the nuptials.
When a reporter asked, ``Are you going to love, honor and obey?″ Fleischer _ who had been considered one of Washington’s most confirmed bachelors _ laughed and replied: ``You talk about frightening notions? Holy cow!″
According to The Washington Post, Fleischer gave Davis a diamond solitaire engagement ring Sunday afternoon. And in his typical, leak-no-details fashion, Fleischer neglected to tell his parents, Alan and Martha Fleischer, who had visited over the weekend and were driving back to Connecticut when their youngest son popped the question.
Still, mother Martha Fleischer, 70, was elated. ``We’re not young parents. We should have been grandparents long ago,″ she told the Post.
To that, the newly betrothed Fleischer replied: ``I do want to defend my two brothers from my mother’s attack against them″ in the newspaper.
