Movie Extra Sues Actor Over Brawl on Set
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) _ A movie extra allegedly pummeled by Sean Penn during filming of the movie ″Colors,″ has sued the 26-year-old actor.
In the suit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Jeffrey Klein, 32, also alleges that Orion Pictures and other companies involved with producing the film were negligent for subjecting employees to Penn’s reputed temper.
″It’s sort of like having a dangerous dog where you work, and the dog’s been known to bite before,″ said Klein’s attorney, Mark Licker.
During a break in the filming at Venice Beach on April 2, Penn allegedly cursed Klein for snapping photographs of him and co-star Robert Duvall, then hit him as the altercation escalated.
Klein had been hired to ride a skateboard past the two actors.
Penn, who is married to the singer Madonna, already faces a June 23 hearing in connection with the incident for allegedly violating terms of probation imposed after he pleaded no contest in February to a misdemeanor battery charge in a previous assault at a nightclub.
The actor also is being sued in connection with the nightclub scuffle.
In addition, he was booked for investigation of drunken driving in an unrelated incident May 25.
Penn, star of such movies as ″The Falcon and the Snowman,″ ″At Close Range,‴’Bad Boys,‴’Racing With the Moon″ and ″Fast Times at Ridgemont High,″ portrays a police detective fighting gangs in ″Colors.″
