Prison medical director resigns after 3 months
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The medical director for the Connecticut Department of Correction has resigned after only three months on the job.
DOC spokeswoman Karen Martucci told The Hartford Courant Wednesday that Dr. Joseph Breton has resigned for another job opportunity.
Breton had taken over as the state was transitioning from the University of Connecticut Health Center as the provider of prison medical care to an in-house program overseen by the Department of Correction.
Breton had previously expressed frustration with the system. He said in a deposition in May that he saw frequent delays in medical care that was harming inmates, and major communication issues between UConn Health and the DOC.
Martucci says the department will continue with its planned transition and refill the vacancy as soon as possible.
