Gunman Takes Thousands Of Dollars In Disney World Robbery
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) _ A gunman stole thousands of dollars from three Walt Disney World employees transporting the cash through a tunnel beneath the Magic Kingdom, police said.
The workers were toting the money in a wooden box when a man pulled a revolver on them, shouted ″back up,″ took the cash, handed it to a waiting man and told the employees to run, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The robbers escaped via a stairwell that leads to an employee parking lot, police said.
Disney spokesman Charlie Ridgway refused to say how much was stolen in the Sunday robbery, but police said it was in the thousands of dollars. He also said security at the park would not be increased despite the Sunday robbery.
″We have had very little problem with robberies over the years,″ Ridgway said. ″There have been a handful since we opened about 15 years ago. We feel our protection systems are adequate.″
He also would not say where the employees were taking the cash.
″We would prefer not to talk about that because that tells people where money is being taken, and it will make it more likely that somebody would try to do the same again,″ he said.
