McLEAN, Va. (AP) _ Business consulting firm KPMG Consulting changed its name Wednesday to BearingPoint, Inc.

The change will help distinguish the company from the KPMG accounting firm. BearingPoint, headquartered in McLean, split from KPMG LLP in 2001 and is a publicly traded company with 16,000 employees.

The company has traded on the NASDAQ market under the ticker symbol KCIN. It will move Thursday to the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BE.

Company officials said the new name, selected from 550 suggestions by employees and ``branding experts,″ is designed to convey its ability to help clients set their direction in the business world.

The advertising campaign to highlight the name change will prominently feature golfer Phil Mickelson, who has an endorsement deal with the company and was often seen wearing a KPMG Consulting visor at PGA Tour events.
