Marine agency to get new leader as current boss shifts
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi’s Department of Marine Resources will get a new leader Dec. 20, as the current executive director shifts to the state economic development agency.
Gov. Phil Bryant said Wednesday that he was naming Joe Spraggins, the department’s chief operations officer since 2013, as its executive director.
Bryant says current Marine Resources leader Jamie Miller will become deputy director for governmental affairs and chief innovation officer at the Mississippi Development Authority.
Miller was named to lead Marine Resources after Bryant fired Bill Walker, who later pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the federal government.
Miller was previously chief of staff for U.S. Rep Steven Palazzo and a Hurricane Katrina recovery adviser to Gov. Haley Barbour.
Spraggins, a retired U.S. Air Force general, was previously emergency management director in Harrison County.
