Golden State Warriors Guard Latrell Sprewell Suspended Indefinetly After Assaulting Coach P.J. Carlesimo
Sprewell, the team’s leading scorer with a 21.4 average, was suspended without pay for at least 10 games, Warriors general manager Garry St. Jean said in a news release.
The suspension begins with Wednesday’s home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and will last at least through Dec. 22, St. Jean said.
``We consider this an extremely serious matter and want to make it clear that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated,″ he said.
The news release didn’t say exactly what Sprewell did to Carlesimo. The team scheduled a news conference for midnight EST to talk about the suspension.
Sprewell angered Carlesimo on Nov. 9, when the player clowned on the bench as the Warriors were being blown out by the Los Angeles Lakers. As punishment, Carlesimo didn’t start Sprewell in the next game.
The Warriors are 1-13 under Carlesimo, who is in his first season with Golden State.
