Man dies in custody after running naked through San Diego
SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say a naked man who ran in and out of traffic before being restrained by a police officer and bystanders died shortly after being taken into custody.
The Los Angeles Times reports witnesses said the man appeared to be intoxicated as he shouted and ran through a neighborhood north of downtown late Friday.
Lt. Matt Dobbs says an officer had a hard time controlling the man even after managing to put handcuffs on him. At least two civilians helped the officer restrain the man until more police arrived.
Officials say the man experienced some kind of medical distress and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
