Cheshire man sentenced to prison for distributing narcotics

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Cheshire man has been sentenced to prison for distributing narcotics to a woman in Southington who died from an overdose.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham says 37-year-old Thomas Halleran was sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison, followed by six years of supervised release.

The case stems from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users.

Police responded to a residence in Southington, Connecticut on July 25, 2017 and found a 31-year-old female, who was pronounced deceased. Investigators seized drugs, drug paraphernalia and her cellphone.

Durham says the cellphone showed that Halleran had been supplying heroin or fentanyl to the victim.

He says Halleran, whose criminal history includes 25 convictions, pleaded guilty last year.
