BEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) _ The nine-bedroom mansion built by singer Mariah Carey and Sony Music executive Tommy Mottola fetched a record $20.5 million when it was sold shortly after the couple’s divorce in March.

The buyer was neighbor Nelson Peltz, chief executive of Triarc Cos., which runs Arby’s, Snapple and Royal Crown Cola.

``He’s got a wife and six kids. He needed a few more bedrooms,″ said Peltz’s lawyer, Neale Albert.

The 51-acre estate about 40 miles north of New York City also includes two swimming pools and a recording studio.

The purchase price was nearly twice that of any previous residential sale in Westchester County, according to the state.
