Red Wings Sign Klima Again
DETROIT (AP) _ Petr Klima, who refused a demotion to the minors after failing to make the Detroit Red Wings in training camp, signed a contract with the team Monday.
He was immediately placed on waivers. If he clears, he will be assigned to the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League.
General manager Ken Holland said the Red Wings had been in contact with Klima since training camp and the two sides had ``come to an agreement.″
``We expect Petr to add depth and experience to our organization for the remainder of the season,″ he said.
Klima, 33, played for the Red Wings from 1985 until he was traded to Edmonton early in the 1989-90 season, scoring 129 goals with 93 assists. He also played for Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, totaling 312 goals and 260 assists in 12 NHL seasons.
In his last NHL season, 1996-97, he played with the Kings, Penguins and Oilers and had two goals and 12 assists in 33 games. He played last season in Germany, with seven goals and 12 assists in 38 games.
