Recovering McCullers gets $4.1M, 1-year contract from Astros
HOUSTON (AP) — Right-hander Lance McCullers and the Houston Astros agreed Friday to a $4.1 million, one-year contract, the same salary he had last season while he recovered from Tommy John surgery.
McCullers had the operation on Nov. 8 last year. Now 26, he is expected to he healthy for the start of spring training in February.
He is 29-22 with a 3.67 ERA in 80 starts, striking out 509 in 453 2/3 innings.
McCullers had been eligible for salary arbitration. He can become a free agent after the 2021 season.
Houston has six players still eligible for arbitration: shortstop Carlos Correa, outfielder George Springer, closer Roberto Osuna, right-handers Chris Devenski and Brad Peacock, and infielder Aledmys Díaz.
