Crash with ‘life-threatening injuries’ closes I-691

An accident involving a tractor-trailer truck has closed part of I-691 in Meriden early Tuesday morning.

Trooper First Class Kelly Grant says one person in the crash has “life threatening injuries.”

The accident, reported at 3:05 a.m. has closed the eastbound lanes between Exits 5 and 7.

Traffic is being detoured off the highway.

I-691 is a major highway that links I-84 in Southington and I-91 in Meriden.

Grant said the accident involves one tractor-trailer truck and at least one car.

“Extrication needed,” Grant said in an email. “Life-threatening injury reported. Injured transported to hospital for evaluation.”

State police or the state Department of Transportation gave no estimated when the eastbound lanes will reopen.

It’s likely goiing to cause big problems for Hartford-bound commuters on Tuesday morning.
