Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. to tap 330 IPA with local malts

AKRON, Ohio – Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. will tap 330 IPA brewed with malts processed at the recently opened West Branch Malts in Brunswick.

The India Pale Ale will be tapped at both the taphouse at 587 Grant St. in Akron and the Flats East Bank location at 1085 Old River Road, Cleveland. The brewers and maltsters will be at the Akron taphouse.

The ale is made with Summit hops, which Thirsty Dog owner John Najeway chose for the name. Thirsty Dog is based in Summit County, but the hop varietal is not indigenous to Northeast Ohio. 330 also has Magnum and Challenger hops and is 6.5 percent alcohol.

West Branch Malts opened a few months ago less than a mile east of Interstate 71 and about a mile north of Ohio 303. Local malt houses serve the dual purpose of keeping a beer’s ingredients truly local while offering brewers the chance to have a say in the preparatory, or cooking, process of the malts.

West Branch Malts is the newest malt house to open in Northeast Ohio. Craig and Andrew Martahus opened Haus Malts in late 2015 on Carnegie Avenue in Cleveland.
