Man pleads guilty to murder in 2016 death of Alabama couple
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A man who was accused of fatally shooting an Alabama couple more than four years ago has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder.
Steven Weaver was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences on Tuesday after he made the guilty plea, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office said in a Twitter post.
The couple, Douglas Gordon Kinney and Lisanne Watkins McKinney, were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on Dec. 15, 2016, AL.com reported.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said in 2016 that Weaver’s estranged wife had been living with them in Mobile County, and she was at the home when Weaver came and attacked the couple. He was captured the next day following an overnight manhunt.
Capt. Paul Burch of the sheriff’s office described the couple’s death as a “straightforward domestic incident.”
It was not immediately clear if Weaver has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
