Oakland routs Mohawk in Special District 3 twin bill

OAKLAND — It was 50-8 after 10 innings as Oakland wrapped up a sweep of Mohawk Friday in a Special District 3 softball doubleheader, 24-1 and 26-7.

The Oakers (16-5, 13-2 SD3) had 34 hits in the twin bill and scored in eight of nine turns at bat.

OHS leadoff hitter Kyla Byrd went 5-for-7 with four runs and seven RBIs. All of Oakland’s starters scored at least three runs between the two contests. The Oakers had 10 extra-base hits, including a homer by Grace Witten, triples from Byrd, Gabby Parnell (2), Andi Bean, Miranda McElhatton and Alyssa Serrano, and doubles from Bean and Maddie Bright (two).

Bean allowed three hits and struck out 18 in 7 1/3 innings in the circle, while McElhatton gave up four hits and five runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Oakland will host North Douglas on Tuesday in the final SD3 series of the season for both teams.
