Flame of Freedom lighting set for today
Veterans Day ceremonies begin this morning at 8 a.m. at the front steps of the Historic Floyd County Courthouse, 4 Government Plaza.
The program will feature the relighting of the Flame of Freedom, which was donated in 1969 to the citizens of Floyd County on the 50th anniversary of three local American Legions and their auxiliaries.
The Flame of Freedom is a reminder of the sacrifice of all veterans, of all U.S. wars and conflicts.
At 11 a.m., another ceremony will be held at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The event will feature speeches, a wreath-laying and music from the Model High School Band.
Cave Spring will hold a ceremony and Veterans Walk at 11 a.m. at the downtown gazebo.
