Armed suicidal subject taken into custody in Sun Prairie, police say
A suicidal subject who moved toward officers while holding a weapon was taken into custody in Sun Prairie on Thursday.
The confrontation caused Westside Elementary School to go into a lockdown as a precaution.
The incident happened in the 1300 block of Buena Vista Drive, Sun Prairie police said. The school is in the same block.
Police were notified of a suicidal, armed subject and went to investigate. When police arrived, the subject displayed the weapon.
“When the subject advanced toward officers, a less-lethal device was deployed,” said police Sgt. Ray Thomson. “The subject was then safely taken into custody.”
The police department was assisted by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, including a member of the Sheriff’s Office negotiations team.
