Newton County Judge declares disaster after water well collapse
Newton County Judge Paul Price confirmed Friday that he has declared a local state of disaster after a collapsed water well pump left nearly 140 families without running water.
Residents of Liberty in northern Newton County are being provided with bottle water by the Red Cross, according to Price, many of which have been without water since Tuesday.
The disaster declaration will last for seven days, Price said, allowing the county to use their resources to help the situation.
“We want these people to get their water back as soon as possible,” Price said.
Price said that emergency services were bringing water trucks to the area Friday to provide water for bathing and toilets.
