Authorities checking ‘suspicious package’ in Paterson

September 19, 2016 GMT

PATERSON - A package that authorities are calling “suspicious” was found at about 9 a.m. on Monday near the corner of Market Street and 16th Avenue, according to Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale.

The bomb squad from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, along with Paterson firefighters and police, are at the scene, Speziale said. The scene is about a block away from Alexander Hamilton Academy.

Speziale said he was not sure exactly where the package was found or what made it suspicious.

“We don’t want to overreact and we don’t want to under-react,” Speziale said.
