Dakota Valley rolls past Vermillion
VERMILLION, S.D. | Luke Schmitt had 277 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as the Dakota Valley football team defeated Vermillion 48-20 in the DakotaDome here on Friday.
Schmitt completed 10 of 14 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 120 yards on 10 carries. Schmitt threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Fisher, a 34-yards scoring strike to Bryce Schroeder and another 10-yard touchdown pass to Fisher.
The Panthers (2-2) raced out to a 41-0 lead before the Tanagers (0-4) scored on a 12-yard run from Rylan Pratt with 2:22 left in the first half.
Dakota Valley ran for 264 yards on 30 attempts (8.8 yards per carry) and finished with 421 yards of total offense on just 44 plays (9.6 yards per play). The Panther defense held the Tanagers to 99 rushing yards on 34 carries (2.9 yards per carry) and 318 yards of total offense on 56 plays (5.7 yards per play).
Dakota Valley also forced four turnovers (three interceptions and one fumble) while having just one fumble on offense.
The Panthers host Canton next week while Vermillion plays at top-ranked (11A) Madison.
