Trenton man charged in connection to domestic incident involving juvenile
A Trenton man was charged Monday in connection with a domestic incident involving a 2-year-old on Edgefield Highway in Aiken on Sunday.
Chauncelle Deshawn Hampton, 20, of the 600 block of Woodyard Road, is charged with malicious injury to personal property and child custody order/pending transport of a child under 16, according to jail records.
Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Edgefield Highway near Goodsprings Road in Aiken around 1 p.m. Sunday and met with a 22-year-old Aiken woman claiming the suspect broke the window to her vehicle and snatched a juvenile out of the car before fleeing the scene, according to the report.
The victim said she came to the suspect’s residence in an attempt to retrieve the juvenile, but no one would answer the door after repeated knocking and vehicle horn activations, the report states.
The child finally came outside, getting into the victim’s vehicle, but the suspect then got into his vehicle and blocked her from leaving, according to the report.
She said the suspect got out of his vehicle, walked over to a passenger side window and stuck his arm through in an attempt to unlock the door; the victim said she rolled up the window with the suspect’s arm still inside and he pulled on the window, causing it to shatter.
The suspect then reached into the vehicle, removed the juvenile through the broken window and then fled the scene.
Investigators reported observing the broken window and spoke with several witnesses.
Hampton was arrested Monday and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he is still being held Tuesday afternoon.
