TENNIS: LaFayette picks up road wins in Jasper
The LaFayette boys moved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 6-AAAA after a 3-2 win over Pickens Monday afternoon in Jasper.
All three wins for the Ramblers came in singles. Jarrod Sitton beat Stephen Jordan, 6-4, 6-0. Noah Matthews needed three sets to take down Skyler Denton, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0, and Brad Templeton claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win over J.R. Neagle.
Isaiah Southern won 6-3 in exhibition singles.
In doubles, Grady Pearson and Sam Barber beat Aaron Asbeury and Dillon Hughes, 6-3, 6-1, while Cody Manis and Cody Johnson defeated Southern and Andrew Long, 6-1, 6-3.
The Lady Ramblers evened their region mark at 2-2 and also improved to 6-3 overall as they got past the Dragonettes, 3-2.
Madison Denny beat Emma Diprema, 6-0, 6-2, while Asberri Freeman took care of Sarah Prather, 6-1, 6-0. Ashley Hamby won at No. 3 singles for Pickens with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Rachel Wallin.
Aubrey Steadman won an exhibition singles match, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Peyton and Kendal Avery beat Madison Harris and Hannah Durham, 6-4, 6-3, to earn a point for the Dragonettes, but Ida Scoggins and S.J. Oxford clinched the win for LaFayette with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hattie Baker and Katie Cowart.
In exhibition doubles, Lauren Torbett and Emma Richardson won the first set, 6-3, and were leading 5-3 when the match was called. Micaela Hobbs and Macy Brewer won their first set, 6-3, and were tied 3-3 in the second when the match was called.
LaFayette will play host to Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
