Lakeside girls gets past Baraboo
LAKE MILLS — The Lakeside Lutheran girls basketball team used a 9-0 scoring run in the closing stages of the first half to gain momentum and the Warriors held off visiting Baraboo 54-51 in a Lake Mills Classic game on Thursday.
Lakeside senior guard Kaitlyn Shadoski scored 16 points and senior Maggie Cody added 12.
The Warriors attacked the Baraboo defense from the baseline with Cody’s play in a game that was physical in nature.
“We tried to attack them more from the baseline,” Lakeside Lutheran head coach Tim Matthies said. “That was Maggie from down there. Kaitlyn was in the high post quite a bit. The two of them found success in those spots.”
Lakeside (4-3) got off to a slow start against a Baraboo (1-8) team from the Badger North Conference that possessed size and athleticism.
“We had a sluggish start,” Matthies said. “Baraboo was long and athletic. They attacked inside and could score from the outside too.”
Lakeside senior forward Abby Buxa and sophomore guard Mia Murray scored six points each. Senior Hannah Willems notched five points for the Warriors.
“Maggie Cody and Hannah Willems each took a nice step forward today,” Matthies said.
For Baraboo, Alexis Johnson totaled 16 points and Lia Kieck supplied 12.
Lakeside hosts Division 3 10th-ranked Greendale Martin Luther today at 3 p.m. in the Lake Mills Classic.
