Heavy Winds Down Trees, Kill Power for Hundreds
TEWKSBURY -- Part of Trull Road in Tewksbury was closed for about 12 hours Thursday after high winds blew down a tree that fell across the road and damaged three utility poles.
That incident, along with other instances of falling trees and branches, left several hundred people without power in Tewksbury Thursday morning.
As of noon, National Grid reported there were still 398 customers without power in town, with 97 of those in the Trull Road area. By 7:30 p.m. there were fewer than five customers in town without power.
Tewksbury police said in a tweet that Trull Road was closed between Cleghorn Lane and Mount Joy Drive as a result of the incident.
Wisconsin Road, a small street off Brown Street, was also closed overnight due to another damaged pole. National Grid reported 301 customers in that area remained without power at noon.
The only other outage in the area reported by National Grid was in Pepperell, where the utility reported 64 customers without power as of noon.
Parts of Chelmsford also lost power during the early-morning hours.
