Ashley Ridge falls in double overtime in Class AAAAA playoffs

SUMMERVILLE — Ashley Ridge dropped a 42-35 double overtime decision to West Florence in the first-round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Friday. The Swamp Foxes end their season with a 7-4 record.

West Florence, now 5-6, will visit defending state champion Dutch Fork next week. The Knights have won four straight games.

The Knights’ winning score came on a 10-yard keeper by quarterback Hale Emerson. Ashley Ridge failed on four downs to match the score in the second overtime period.

Trailing by 28-21 late in the game, Ashley Ridge drove 76 yards in 42 seconds with Matthew Duncan throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass with 2.2 seconds remaining in regulation.


Nick Cunningham scored a touchdown in the first overtime to give Ashley Ridge a 35-28 lead.

Ashley Ridge quarterback Matthew Duncan completed 18 of 25 passes for 324 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
