January 30, 2019 GMT

ASHBURNHAM -- The Oakmont Regional girls’ basketball team added another accolade to its outstanding season on Tuesday.

With a 49-28 win over visiting Hudson, the Spartans (14-0) clinched sole possession of the Mid-Wach C title, finishing league play with a perfect 8-0 record.

As it has been for much of Oakmont’s season, the seniors helped lead the way, with Leah Pelkey (16 points, 6 rebounds), Kylie Lison (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Rachel Sinclair (8 points) powering the offense.

The Spartans, who next travel to face Lunenburg on Friday, finished strong at the end of the first and second quarters. Pelkey scored six of her eight first-quarter points during a clutch run to end the period. Then, leading 18-10 with 30 seconds to go before halftime, Lison hit a pair of 3-pointers before the buzzer to extend the gap to 24-10 at the break.

Oakmont’s defense took over from there, outscoring Hudson 20-7 in the third quarter to pull away.
