Middle School Track: Gordon Lee sweeps three-team meet
Fresh off their win at the eight-team LaFayette Invitational this past Thursday, the Gordon Lee boys’ track team claimed a smaller win on Tuesday, beating fellow Walker County rivals LaFayette and Saddle Ridge in meet in Chickamauga.
The Trojans picked up 72 points to earn a comfortable victory over the Ramblers (42.5), while the Mustangs (5.5) took third.
Gordon Lee won nine events, including two each by Griffin Collins and Jake Lee. Collins won the 100 (12.03) and the 200 (26.90), while Lee took first in the 800 (2:18) and the 1600 (5:24).
Kameron Oliver won the 400 (1:02.31). Brady Jacobs jumped 18-4 1/2 to win the long jump and Logan Butler reached 35-4 in the shot put. The 4x100 “A” relay team won in a time of 50.25, while the 4x400 “A” relay team clocked in at 4:23.
The other three wins were turned in by LaFayette. Eli Prince won the discus (94-8), Jalyon Ramsey won the high jump (5-2) and Harrison Watkins took the 100 hurdles (17.33).
The girls’ meet had a much closer finish, but the home team was still able to pull out the win. The Lady Trojans collected 53 points, followed by LaFayette (42) and Saddle Ridge (30).
Addison Sturdivant picked up wins in both the 100 hurdles (17.53) and the 400 (1:07.30), while Gordon Lee also got first-place points from Arilyn Lee in the discus (92-4), Emma Phillips in the long jump (14-1/2), Kaylee Brown in the high jump (4-8), Ansley Dendy in the 800 (3:13) and the 4x400 “A” team (5:00).
The only win for the Lady Ramblers came in the 4x100 as the “A” team won in a time of 59.30.
Saddle Ridge won four events, two by Auriyan McClure, who swept the 100 (14.15) and the 200 (30.13). Madi Ashley won the shot put (27-1 1/4), while Haynie Gilstrap followed up her LaFayette Invitational win by winning the 1600 in a time of 6:30.
