WSCC board to award $3 million in bids for projects
VICTORY TWP. — The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees will meet in a special session at 5 p.m. Monday to consider awarding bids in more than $3 million construction work on the campus.
In a memo to the board by West Shore Community College President Scott Ward, he outlines the unsealed bids for the second phase of a remodeling job on the technical center and a project working for the bookstore and cafe.
Christman Company is the project management firm, Ward noted, and it expressed confidence in the vendors it is recommending for the pair of projects.
The technical center would receive more than $2.9 million in work. The campus center bookstore/cafe would receive $157,400 in work. The total cost between the two projects is estimated to be a little more than $3 million.
Ward noted the technical center project is one being done jointly with the State of Michigan. Funding for a portion of the technical center work and all of the Schoenherr Campus Center work will come from the capital reserves.
Additional costs for insurances, bonds, labor and contingency costs pushes the total construction estimate for the technical center to $5.08 million, and the campus center renovation work to $196,024.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. Monday at the John M. Eaton Board Room in the Adminstrative and Conference Building on the school’s campus.
