Mary Jane Mattson

Mary Jane Mattson, 98, of Fort Madison, died at 7:25 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Ada Shoemaker. On Dec. 23, 1941, she married Edgar Paul Mattson in Schuyler County, Mo. He passed away on Sept. 1, 1996.

She attended Burlington High School.

Mary Jane was a dedicated employee of Winegard for over 30 years.

She enjoyed taking walks, biking, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, needlepoint, and always had a great sense of fashion.

Survivors include her two daughters, Judith and her husband, Tony Walz, of Fort Madison and Paulette Swanson of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her three sons, David C. Mattson, Gary D. Mattson, and Steven K. Mattson; one daughter, Lana Faye Mattson; and two brothers, Joseph and Gerald Shoemaker.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Mattson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Burlington Memorial Park.

A memorial has been established.
