Families congregate for Independence Day Fun at Needles Aquatic Center
NEEDLES — It was a windy Fourth of July celebration at the Needles Aquatic Center, located along J Street, but that didn’t stop families from attending the annual event.
“We come here every year because the children love this event,” said Ian Raley.
“The whole pool staff puts together a great event for the community and it’s fun to come and celebrate with everybody,” said Graci Weiss. “This is a great pool and not enough people take advantage of it, it’s clean, the staff is great and people are friendly at the pool.”
Weiss mentioned that coming to the pool on the Fourth of July is like coming to a big family reunion because everybody kind of knows everybody. Raley echoed that thought.
This year’s Independence Day celebration at the aquatic center featured: Tug-O-War, a tube relay race, Pie the Lifeguard, a treasure hunt, end of day music and the annual Miss Freedom and Mr. Firecracker coronation.
“We come to the pool here because they have more activities than the other pools do that are in the area,” said Brett Olbrich from Bullhead City, Ariz. “We live in Bullhead, and the pool there is only doing free swim and serving hot dogs. Another reason we like coming here on the Fourth of July is that the pool is affordable to everyone so anyone can enjoy it.”
“This is our sixth year in a row that we came to the pool and we are grateful because the river is packed this time of the year,” said Meagan Goetz. “After the pool, we celebrate a Fourth of July birthday by having a special family dinner and then we head over to the Avi to watch the fireworks show.”
