December 15, 2017 GMT

Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week award to Jaden McDaniels of St. Albans High School.

Daughter of James and Leah McDaniels, Jaden McDaniels has played basketball for as long as she can remember. “It’s almost like a way of life,” said Jaden.

Jaden is a senior at St. Albans High school and currently holds a 4.2 GPA. Jaden is undecided on which college she will attend, but she is certain she is going to continue her education. She has plans to major in psychology.

On the court, Jaden plays the position of point guard. In this position she is responsible for running the team’s offense, controlling the ball and making sure the ball gets to the right player at the right time.

Jaden stated, “It’s a specialized position, we get everyone together and make sure that everything runs smoothly.”

“Jaden is a competitor, hard worker and leads by example,” said coach Scott Tweedy. “Her presence will be greatly missed when she graduates in the spring.”

This past week, St. Albans girls’ basketball team had a couple of great games. They defeated South Charleston in a nail biting game with a final score of 38-36 and also took home the win against their rival, Nitro Wildcats, with a score of 52-34.

“We fought hard and worked together. We have lost a couple of girls and we have had to really step up our game,” stated Jaden. “The girls have really come together. I couldn’t be more proud of how far they have come,” Tweedy said.

So far this season Jaden has averaged over 20 points per game and doesn’t plan on stopping there.

“It would be amazing to make it to states. If we keep playing like we are I think we stand a good chance of making it,” she said.

When asked who her biggest role model was, Jaden

stated that her parents perfectly fit that role. “They always motivate me, they push me to be the best at whatever I’m doing.”

Outside of basketball Jaden loves to spend time around her friends and family. She is also a lifeguard during the summer months and is involved in several extracurricular activities at her high school.
