Reward increase for Starr County cold case
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) increased the reward Thursday for information on a nearly three-decades-long unsolved murder in Starr County.
The reward for information on the 1990 murder of Laura Guadalupe Guerra has been raised from $3,000 to $6,000 until DPS features a new unsolved homicide next month.
Guerra’s body was found in a wooded area across from the Rio Motel (1111 West Main Street) in Rio Grande City on May 23, 1990, three days after she was reported missing. She had been shot and investigators believe she was murdered at another location before her body was dumped in the woods.
The Texas Rangers and the Starr County Sheriff’s Office have reopened this case and believe a possible witness known locally as “Gaston Garza” or “Mariano” may have information on the crime.
