Arrest made in shooting that killed 19-year-old
KANKAKEE — Dequan M. Morris was arrested by Kankakee Police on Wednesday and preliminarily charged with the murder of Kevin L. Wright Jr. and attempted murder of Antwan Lawrence as a result of a shooting last month.
The 23-year-old Morris is alleged to have gunned down the pair in an alley behind Kohl’s Apartments in the 700 block of North Greenwood Avenue on Oct. 17.
Wright, 19, of Kankakee, died on Oct. 19 of a gunshot wound to the head.
The 19-year-old Lawrence, of Kankakee, has recovered from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Kankakee police have not released any other information.
Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe said Morris will be in court to have his bond set on Friday.
Rowe said he could not comment further until they receive the reports and review the charges.
Wright is the sixth homicide victim in the city this year.
It marks the only the second arrest of a suspect in those cases.
