Inappropriate texts with minor lead to arrest
NORFOLK — A 24-year-old Norfolk man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to entice a minor girl earlier this month.
Capt. Mike Bauer of the Norfolk Police Division said police were notified on Aug. 3 at 11:17 p.m. about the possible electronic enticement of a minor.
A 12-year old girl was attempting to sell a swimsuit on Facebook and was contacted by a man. The juvenile reported this to her mother and the mother took over the text conversation with the man, Bauer said.
During the subsequent text conversation, the man offered to come to the juvenile’s house and bring marijuana. He also offered her to come to his place to have a drink and “to see what happens,” along with additional sexual comments, Bauer said.
The man’s Facebook account identified him as Zachariah A. Andrews, 24, Norfolk.
Investigators worked with Facebook to preserve evidence of the message conversation. On Wednesday, Norfolk detectives located Andrews and spoke to him about the incident.
At the conclusion of the investigation, he was arrested for sexual assault-use of electronic communication device.
He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
