The Tri-State offers several opportunities to get outdoors and exercise for a good cause. Here are some upcoming events:

n The inaugural Pi Day 5K and Celebration is set for 3:14 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Crabbe Elementary/Central Park in Ashland. The race will begin promptly at 3:14 p.m. following the Pi Celebration from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Crabbe Elementary. The race will begin and end at the concession stands in the center of Central Park located at the end of Chuck Woolery Boulevard. Cost is $25 if registered by March 5; $30 day of race. Proceeds benefit the Allison Joy McKnight Memorial Scholarship, which is granted to one qualifying Paul G. Blazer High School senior entering a STEM program. The scholarship was established in memory of Allison McKnight, a mathematics teacher at Paul G. Blazer High School. n The virtual Run for Texas is set for Saturday, March 10. Participants can run a 5K at home on the treadmill, at a park, on a trail or anywhere else you can run. Participants submit their times to see if they qualify for an award. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $30 if registered by March 9; $35 day of race. This 5K is being sponsored by Oakview Elementary’s Student Technology Leadership Program to raise money for a special needs classroom in Houston, Texas, that was hit by Hurricane Harvey. n The HHS St. Patrick’s Day 5K run/2-mile walk is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Huntington High School. The two-loop course begins on the track, then follows the cross country trail around the baseball and softball fields, then back toward the entrance of the football stadium before looping around the bus loop and back to the track. n The sixth annual Shamrock Shuffle is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the CAO Welcome Center, 342 2nd St., Portsmouth. The flat course winds through the downtown and historic Boneyfiddle Districts of Portsmouth. Cost is $30. n The fourth annual Leaping Leprechaun 5K for Holy Family School is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Holy Family School, 900 Winchester Ave., Ashland. The flat, fast course starts at Holy Family School and circles the Town Center Mall parking area three times before returning to the school.
