Janet Gretzky hospitalized after freak injury at hockey game
NEW YORK (AP) _ Actress Janet Gretzky, wife of hockey star Wayne Gretzky, was knocked unconscious and carried out of Madison Square Garden on a stretcher after a thick pane of plastic crashed into the stands.
Ms. Gretzky, whose stage name is Janet Jones, was released from St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital today after treatment for a mild concussion and a cut on her lip that required stitches.
She was injured Wednesday night during the New York Rangers’ 1-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks when a protective pane from the rink’s sideboards was knocked loose by a player and hit her in the head.
Ms. Gretzky was sitting in the front row.
Another woman sitting close to her also appeared to be injured but did not require treatment at the hospital.
Gretzky was visibly upset after skating over to check on his wife. After a delay of 10 minutes, he finished the game and quickly left for the hospital.
Ms. Gretzky has appeared in several movies, including ``The Flamingo Kid,″ ``American Anthem″ and ``A Chorus Line.″
She married the hockey star in 1988. The couple have three children.
