Kansas State drum major proposes during halftime

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State University’s football team may have lost the game Saturday, but fans at the stadium still erupted in cheers as the school’s drum major proposed to a graduate student during halftime.

Carly Tracz told the Wichita Eagle that she couldn’t say “yes” fast enough after boyfriend and Kansas State Marching Band drum major Blake Moris got down on one knee while fans watched on the big screens at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The couple began dating in 2016, just days after meeting during a football game. They said band and football have been an integral part of their relationship.

Tracz, a graduate student in college student development, said she always knew she wanted the proposal “to somehow be band- or football-related” since she grew up with the band and met Moris in it.

Moris knew Tracz “loves halftime proposals,” and he wanted to pop the question in front of the university’s band of more than 400 people. So he planned to propose during halftime when Kansas State University played Mississippi State University, where he would be leading the band on a tall podium.

“I was a little suspicious during the week because he asked so many questions about my plans for the game,” Tracz said. “I do the exact same thing every game so it was weird that he would need clarification.”

As the band hit the last note of a Jesus Christ Superstar medley, Moris hopped off the podium, grabbed the ring and ran to Tracz in the student section where he asked her to marry him.

“It was a surreal feeling having the love of your life telling you that she will marry you, and then ... people you don’t know going crazy because it happened,” Moris said. “It was amazing, everything worked so perfectly, I couldn’t have asked for it to be any better.”
