Baltimore police: Mom to be charged after 2 kids found dead
BALTIMORE (AP) — A woman will be charged in the deaths of her two young children after she confessed to killing the boy and girl whose decomposing bodies were found in a southwest Baltimore apartment, police said Wednesday.
Officers were called Tuesday afternoon to an apartment on Coventry Road, where they found the bodies of 6-year-old Da’neria Thomas and her brother, 8-year-old Davin Thomas, news outlets reported.
“There is nothing more difficult than investigating the murder of a child, much less two children,” Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said at a news conference.
Police found the children’s mother Wednesday and she confessed while being questioned, Harrison said. Officials are still working to figure out how and when the children died and formal charges are still pending, he said.
Three years ago, city police issued an alert after the children and their mother went missing and her parents thought they might be harmed, news outlets reported. All three were found safe after officials learned the mother admitted them to Northwest Hospital.
The mother’s parents reported that she set fire to family pictures and mementos at her mother’s home, according to court records. The children’s mother pleaded guilty to arson and received a one-year sentence. She was later granted custody of the children.
